Hanuman Chalisa controversy: Court grants anticipatory bail to MP Navneet Rana, MLA husband in second FIR

A Mumbai court has granted pre-arrest bail to MP Navneet Rana and her MLA husband Ravi Rana for preventing police from arresting them following the Hanuman Chalisa controversy.

A special court in Mumbai on Tuesday allowed the anticipatory bail plea of ​​Independent Lok Sabha MP Navneet Rana and her MLA husband Ravi Rana in a case preventing police from arresting them in the aftermath of the Hanuman Chalisa controversy.

His anticipatory bail plea, in relation to the second FIR, which was registered by Khar police under IPC section 353 (assault or criminal force to prevent public servant from discharging his duty), was allowed by Special Judge RN Rokade. .

Special Judge RN Rokade observed that even after filing the charge sheet, there was a Supreme Court order granting anticipatory bail to the accused and thus allowed the application. Special Judge RN Rokade said, “In the event of arrest of the applicants named Navneet Ravi Rana and Ravi Rana, they will be released on executing a PR bond of Rs 50,000.”

Navneet and Ravi Rana were arrested on April 23 after they announced that they would recite Hanuman Chalisa in front of ‘Matoshree’ in Bandra, the private residence of then Chief Minister and Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray.

He was booked for treason. While they were being arrested, the Mumbai Police had registered another case against the two for preventing the police officers from doing their duty.

He is currently out on bail.
