A man convicted of raping and killing a 5-year-old girl in Haryana’s Jhajjar was sentenced to death on Monday. After 11 months of the incident, the fast track court, while completing the hearing, sentenced the convict Vinod alias Munna. Apart from this, the court also imposed life imprisonment and a fine of Rs 1 lakh 85 thousand to the guilty under Section 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act 2012.
The incident took place on 21 December 2020 in the Cantonment area of Jhajjar. Here a mason lived with his family. 26-year-old Vinod Kumar alias Munna also lived near him. 21 December 2020- Vinod knocked on the door of the mason’s house at around 1 pm on Sunday night. When the mason opened the door and saw Vinod’s head blood was coming out. Vinod asked the mason to accompany him for care and took him to his room on the pretext and locked him there. After this Vinod went back to the mason’s house. There the mason’s wife was present with her 5 year old daughter.

Vinod first molested the mason’s wife and then ran away with her 5-year-old daughter. Vinod reached his room with the girl and took out the mason and closed the door from inside. Vinod raped and killed the girl in the room. The masons immediately informed the police about the incident. When the policemen who reached the spot broke the door of Vinod’s room, inside the accused was sitting near the body of the girl. The police immediately arrested Vinod. During the post-mortem, the rape was confirmed with the girl before the murder.
Decision in 11 months
This case of rape and murder of a 5-year-old girl was going on in the fast track court of Additional District and Sessions Judge Hemraj in Jhajjar. Considering all the evidence, on Monday, 11 months after the incident, the court convicted Vinod alias Munna and sentenced him to death. The court sentenced Vinod to death in the rape and murder case of the girl child. Apart from this, under Section 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act 2012, he was also sentenced to life imprisonment and fined Rs 1 lakh 85 thousand.

The matter was investigated by the police team led by the then DSP of Jhajjar, Rahul Dev. Vinod alias Munna was sentenced to death on the basis of statements of about two dozen witnesses. In the past, 8 cases like robbery and murder are registered against Vinod alias Munna in Haryana and Rajasthan.
