New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday greeted people on ‘Guru Purnima’ and described it as a day to express gratitude to all exemplary teachers who have inspired and mentored mankind. “Happy Guru Purnima. It is a day to express our gratitude to all the exemplary gurus who have inspired us, mentored us and taught us so much about life. Our society values learning and knowledge immensely. May the blessings of our Gurus take India to new heights,” PM Modi tweeted.
The Prime Minister also extended his greetings on the occasion of Ashadha Purnima, a holy day especially for Buddhists.
He said, “Greetings on the holy occasion of Ashadha Purnima. We remember the great teachings of Lord Buddha and reiterate our commitment to realizing his enlightened vision of a just and compassionate society.”
It is believed that the Buddha gave his first sermon on this day after attaining enlightenment. The Prime Minister also posted a video clip which included his earlier remarks while paying homage to the Buddha.
