Former India head coach Ravi Shastri has heaped praise on South Africa’s Keegan Pietersen, saying the right-handed batsman reminds him of the great Gundappa Viswanath.
‘Player of the Series’ Pietersen played a key role in South Africa’s 2-1 series win against India. Despite trailing 1-0, the Proteas made a strong comeback on the back of disciplined batting performances in Johannesburg and Cape Town. While the cameos from captain Dean Elgar and vice-captain Temba Bavuma acted as boosters for the hosts, it was Pietersen who took most of the responsibilities on his shoulders.

Shastri on Friday heaped praise on the 28-year-old South African batsman on Twitter.

Regarded as one of the best batsmen of his era, right-arm Viswanath, who played 91 Tests and 25 ODIs for India, had a supple wrist, which he used to play the square cut. 28-year-old Pietersen is equally wristy.

Shastri also said that ‘KP’ was a great start, referring to former England captain Kevin Pietersen, who was one of the most captivating batsmen.
