Gujarat Waqf Tribunal demands action against lawyers. Ahmedabad News – Times of India

AHMEDABAD: The Gujarat State Waqf Tribunal has asked the Bar Council of Gujarat (BCG) to take legal action against four advocates for their alleged inappropriate behavior during the hearing. The lawyers had accused the members of the tribunal of recusing themselves from the case as two of them belonged to the Sunni sect.

Members of the Sunni sect have been claiming that the management of the trust consists of members of the Shia sect.
He alleged that the trust was taken over by members of the Dawoodi Bohra community and the management should be handed over to Sunnis.
During an online hearing on January 18, lawyers for the defendants representing the Bohra community and their religious leader had a heated argument with the members of the tribunal.
one of the lawyers, Manish ShahSaid that the Waqf Board hears the matter better than the Tribunal.
This did not go down well with the Tribunal, which recorded that the lawyer alleged that the Tribunal does not hear the matter in accordance with law.
It was also held that three other lawyers – VR Aggarwal, Rajesh Modi And Kaiser Merchant – misbehaved during the hearing.
It said that Agarwal and Modi had argued that the members of the tribunal – chairman AI Shaikh and one of the two members Rizwan Qadri – are Sunni and therefore they were in a hurry to hear the matter. He submitted that the matter pertains to a dispute between Sunni and Shia sects and therefore these members should not hear it.
The tribunal also recorded that other senior lawyers maintained dignity and insisted that lawyers should not make such arguments.
