Patel said that barring 20 to 22 in the state, almost all the APMCs are financially sound and functioning properly.
A media report claimed that there was virtually no business activity in around 15 APMCs, while around 115 others were on the verge of closure, which has put a question mark on the future of around 3,000 employees.
Patel said he held a meeting with the state’s Agriculture Minister RC Faldu and Cooperation Minister Iswarsinh Patel To review the current financial position and turnover of more than 200 APMCs registered in Gujarat on Wednesday.
“There is no substance in the reports which claim that some APMCs have been closed. All are working till date. In the review meeting, we found that almost all APMCs are financially sound and working fine.” Viramgam The city near here after laying the foundation stone for a new APMC.
“Only 20 to 22 APMCs, which were established many years back, are facing some issues today as the management did not bother to create new infrastructure or facilities for farmers and traders in all these years. The auction is also not taking place there. Even the shops in the premises were not allotted to the traders,” the deputy CM said.
Patel said that such sluggish attitude of the management has made those 20 to 22 APMCs almost non-operational and put a question mark on the future of around 100 employees of those market yards.
Patel said, “Barring those 20 to 22 APMCs, all the remaining 225 APMCs are doing well and sell agricultural produce worth Rs 1,00,000 crore every year and earn crores of rupees of cess. This proves that all APMCs are difficult. I’m not.”
He said that though private APMCs are also coming up in Gujarat, the market yards running on Sahyog model with the support of the state government will not be affected by this.
