“The UP Defense Corridor is a greenfield project and even those MSMEs and start-ups who are not directly related to defense and aerospace can benefit immensely from it. UP has the highest number of MSMEs, comprising over three crore people,” he said.
The Chief Minister talked about the Defense and Aerospace policy implemented by the government which is providing significant subsidies and benefits to the investors. The government has already acquired 1,500 hectares of land for six nodes and the CM has directed officials to acquire more in nodes where demand is high. “We acquired 74 hectares of land in Aligarh which has been completely distributed to 19 units. An investment of Rs 1,500 crore is possible through these. During the Defense Expo in 2020, 23 investors signed MoUs worth Rs 50,000 crore,” the CM said.
The UP government has signed an MoU with Navy UP for setting up Center of Excellence. Through Expressway Industrial Development Authority BHU And It Kanpur. It has also worked with the Defense Ministry to set up laboratories under Common Facility Centers for Defense Testing and Infrastructure.
SIDM President Jayant Patil talked about the reforms in the defense sector which, he said, focused on capacity building. Talking about the importance of this sector and the opportunities it presents, he said: “This is evident through the increase in defense budget allocation by 15%. Two-thirds of the budget is devoted to procurement from Indian industries, of which 20% has been reserved for MSMEs. In addition, 208 items have been moved to the positive list, which means these items cannot be imported.
Highlighting the work done by his government to create an investment-friendly environment in the state, the CM outlined 20 sector specific policies to promote investment in various sectors.
