Greater Noida: Three persons have been arrested for allegedly cheating people on the pretext of helping them in withdrawing money from the ATMs and swapping their debit cards.
Police said, the gang had been operating in Noida and Greater Noida for the past six months.
According to police, the accused have been identified as Sonu Maheshwari, Vipin Kumarboth residents of Kasganj, and Sachin Kumara resident of Etah.
“On February 7, Dinanath Singh, a resident of Kulesara village, had visited an ATM kiosk to withdraw money. The three miscreants swapped his debit card on the pretext of helping him and withdrew Rs 8,000 from another ATM kiosk,” said Elamaran G, additional deputy commissioner of police, Noida Central.
According to Singh’s complaint, a case was registered under IPC Section 420 (cheating) at Ecotech 3 police station.
“We scanned some CCTV footages and managed to identify them. On Wednesday, we received a tip-off about their movement near Haldoni crossing in Greater Noida. A team hastened to the spot and signaled a Maruti Swift Dzire to stop for checking. Three people were inside the car and they failed to produce the vehicle’s registration papers,” the ADCP said .
Police found 11 stolen debit cards, a country-made gun, two live cartridges, two knives, three Aadhaar cards and Rs 8,000 in cash, from their possession.
The accused were produced before the court and sent to judicial custody, the officer said, adding that they have found eight cases of cheating against the accused across the district.
