Government issued security advisory for Indian citizens in Afghanistan, said – the situation is dangerous

The government on Tuesday issued a security advisory for Indian citizens in Afghanistan, in the wake of recent security-related incidents in the war-torn country.

Describing the situation in several provinces of Afghanistan as “alarming”, the advisor said Indian nationals face the additional risk of being kidnapped by terror outfits.

“The security situation in Afghanistan remains alarming in many provinces. Terrorist groups operating in Afghanistan have escalated violent activities and carried out a series of complex attacks. Indian citizens are no exception, and they also face the grave threat of kidnapping. have to do.” Indian Embassy in Kabul said.

The embassy has advised Indian nationals residing in or traveling to Afghanistan to exercise “extreme vigilance and caution with respect to safety during movement to the place of work, place of residence and their workplace”.

All Indian nationals arriving in Afghanistan have been asked to register themselves with the Embassy/Consulate on the website www.eoi.gov.in/kabul or by email at paw.kabul@mea.gov.in.

In addition, Indian citizens have been “strongly advised” to avoid all kinds of non-essential activities, especially during peak hours.

“While traveling on the roads, keep distance from potential targets such as military convoys, vehicles of government ministries/offices, high-ranking officials, law-enforcement agencies and in crowded markets, shopping complexes, mandis, restaurants and other public places. Avoid leaving.” advisory states.

Indian citizens have also been urged to avoid traveling outside major cities. If outstation travel is necessary, people should prefer to travel by air as rail and land routes are vulnerable to terrorist attacks.

The Embassy has “strongly advised” Indian companies operating in Afghanistan to take necessary security measures with respect to their Indian employees posted at project sites. Such companies may approach the Security and Public Affairs Wing of the Embassy of India for obtaining necessary guidance/assistance.
