England vs SL: Chris Woakes, Joe Root lead England to easy win in 1st ODI against Sri Lanka

Chris Woakes led the way to victory Joe Root England beat Sri Lanka by five wickets with 15 overs to spare in the first one-day international on Tuesday.

Woakes had bowled just seven overs for the national team since being named England’s Player of the Year in September, but it was his exemplary bowling that settled matters at Chester-le-Street.

They claimed 4-18 in their 10 overs, limiting the weak tourists to a less-competitive 185, when England won the toss and elected to field.
