‘Government at your doorstep’: PM Modi’s initiative for distressed families of children trapped in Ukraine

new Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday directed local authorities to contact families of children stranded in conflict-torn country Ukraine to assure them of the government’s full support, news agency ANI was quoted as saying.

Officials said the prime minister has directed that families whose individuals are still in Ukraine reach out to a government representative amid heightened tensions due to the state of the dispute.

“To pacify the worried parents of students who are still stranded in Ukraine, the Prime Minister is directed to contact the Tehsildar to the government representative, from the Collector to the Ministers to ensure May the families not feel alone or feel any distress during difficult times,” said an official

Amid escalating conflict between Russia and Ukraine, officials said the prime minister has also directed that any issues facing these families should be addressed immediately.

He said the move was part of a strong message of support and a vision to “take governance to the doorsteps of citizens”.

He similarly said that the Prime Minister has requested that his entire team to have an “all hands on deck approach” with regard to the evacuation of Indian residents from Ukraine.

Earlier, PM Modi had instructed four of his ministers to be deployed in different countries of Europe to rescue the Indians trapped in Ukraine at the earliest.

Modi had given instructions to the ministers on Monday and all the ministers reached their allotted countries on Tuesday and started the work of evacuating Indians safely.

Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia took charge in Romania. As soon as he reached there, Scindia held a meeting with the Indian Ambassador at the airport itself and made all possible help, food and accommodation arrangements for the Indian students before boarding the flight. Similarly, Law Minister Kiren Rijiju has reached Slovakia. There he also took charge.

Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri has taken control of the entire system by reaching Hungary and VK Singh has reached Moldova. At present there are about 8000 Indians in Ukraine. Of these, 4000 are being taken to the countries adjoining the western border and as per the plan of the government will be brought back by 26 flights in the next 3 days.
