Group chat on the Messages app is enabled through the RCS that Google wants other platforms to offer for their users.

The Google Messages app is now getting end-to-end encryption for group chats as well. The messaging app that comes preloaded on millions of Android phones now offers an extra layer of security when you’re talking to multiple people in a group. The Messages app supports Rich Communication Services (RCS) which makes it more or less like a rival to WhatsApp with similar features.

The new security feature Google confirmed this week is coming to an open beta version, but as you may know, Messages via RCS only works on Android, as Apple continues to shy away from the messaging standard, and Google Working hard for this. Get the iPhone giant on board.
