The second carriageway of the Sarai Kale Khan flyover, a crucial part of the structure’s expansion project aimed at enhancing commuting ease for those travelling from ITO to Ashram, has reached completion, according to project officials. This newly constructed section is anticipated to open to traffic as early as the upcoming Sunday.
In addition to the structural expansion, aesthetic enhancements, such as wall painting on the piers of the flyover, are currently underway. A senior official from the Public Works Department (PWD) revealed that the process is at its final stages, and plans for the facility’s inauguration have already been submitted to the state government. The inauguration ceremony is likely to take place at 12:30 PM on October 22, the PWD official mentioned, preferring to remain anonymous.
As part of the assessment process, trial runs were observed during a site visit on Tuesday afternoon. The PWD official mentioned, “We had also carried out trial runs by releasing batches of vehicles on Monday.”
Currently, the site has a one-way flyover designed for vehicles travelling from Ashram to ITO but lacks a corresponding route for those travelling from ITO to Ashram, leading to congestion at the T-junction red light. The new flyover project is expected to establish a signal-free corridor at the Sarai Kale Khan T-junction on Ring Road.

Due to the construction of the Rapid Rail Transit System, the traffic load in the busy Sarai Kale Khan area is anticipated to increase further. The area already boasts a railway station, a Metro station, and ISBT, making Sarai Kale Khan a prominent transport hub in the near future. The 643-meter-long three-lane flyover, constructed parallel to the existing one from Ashram to ITO, has been executed at an estimated cost of ₹65.55 crore.
This flyover will significantly improve the commute from Ghaziabad and ITO to Ashram crossing, serving traffic arriving from Akshardham, the Delhi-Meerut expressway, and Mayur Vihar.
