The Congress leader further termed the LPG rate hike as yet another blow to the common man by the BJP-led government and said that food items in restaurants and eateries would become costlier.

Leader of the Opposition in Goa Yuri Alemao on Wednesday hit out at the BJP-led central government over the hike in LPG prices, saying that now it would be difficult for the youth to even fry fritters. LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas) prices were increased by Rs 50 per cylinder today.

In an apparent reference to Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s speech in Parliament in 2018, Alemao said, “It’s better to be unemployed than to sell pakodas.” Now it will be difficult even for the educated unemployed youths to fry pakodas.

He said that a domestic LPG cylinder will now cost Rs 1,117 with the latest price hike.

The Congress leader further termed the LPG rate hike as yet another blow to the common man by the BJP-led government and said that food items in restaurants and eateries would become costlier.

Accusing the BJP of constantly putting financial burden on the people, he said, “With this increase, the budget of the house will be completely destroyed.” This is a financial emergency imposed on the middle class and the poor by an insensitive BJP government.

Alemao stressed that with Lok Sabha elections just a year away, “the time has come for the people to understand the pro-capitalist and anti-poor agenda of the BJP government.”

This was the first hike in rates in nearly eight months – which came within days of the end of polling in three northeastern states. Parallelly, oil companies also increased the price of commercial LPG used in hotels and restaurants by Rs 350.5 per cylinder.
