Gautam Gambhir told the batsman who gave competition to Jasprit Bumrah

New Delhi: Virat Kohli-led Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) are yet to win the Indian Premier League (IPL) title. After a heartbreaking loss in the 2016 final, Bangalore have struggled to even qualify for the playoffs. Virat’s red-brigade was absolutely remarkable in terms of performance earlier this year before the cancellation of IPL 2021 due to coronavirus and is currently ranked third in the IPL 2021 points table.

The second leg of IPL 2021 is set to begin in a few days and RCB will be aiming to maintain their momentum to win their maiden IPL title. Former India opener Gautam Gambhir believes that RCB have many big players who can dominate the opposition and a player like Jasprit Bumrah can only be faced by a batsman like AB de Villiers.

“He (Virat) got people like AB de Villiers and Glenn Maxwell, who are a big cushion for him. Even if Maxwell is not there, AB is a huge cushion because there is only one person who can take on someone like Jasprit Bumrah and that was AB de Villiers. I haven’t seen anyone else who has done this consistently against Bumrah, but AB is a freak,” Gautam Gambhir told Star Sports Network during an interaction.

Gambhir further talked about the huge pressure on Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers.

“But yes, obviously beyond Virat’s level, he would like to go out and dominate the opposition, especially in the IPL. One is international cricket where you have 5 or 6 top international bowlers, you don’t have in IPL.

“You probably get 2 or 3 international bowlers and then you also have domestic bowlers who you can dominate. So, there is probably a lot of pressure on Virat and AB too, which could be one of the reasons and year after year, if you don’t win that title then the pressure also keeps on increasing,” Gambhir told Star Sports.
