Prayagraj: Two days after the Allahabad University reopened, it is a fourth-year student of BA-LLB course over a complaint of ragging by a third year student of the same course
The fourth year student, Gautam Anand, was from the university as well as the hostel with immediate effect. According to the report submitted to the chief proctor Prof. Harsh Kumaran inmate of Shatabadi Boy’s Hostel of AU and third year student of BA-LLB complaint that another inmate of the same hostel and his senior (4th year student) in the same course abused him, asked him to remove his clothes and also thrashed him asking him to respect the seniors.
In his complaint, the third year student has said that Anandalong with few other inmates of the same hostel, ragged him and also took away cash from his room.
While action against Anand was taken, his friend Sanskar Aryan of the same course has also been suspended. A notice has been issued to both the students and a reply has been sought.
On the other hand, acting on the same complaint, the chief proctor has lodged a complaint against Gautam and three others at the Colonelganj police station.
Chief Proctor Prof Harsh Kumar informed that the resident of Shatabdi Boy’s hostel has given a written complaint that on Monday at 11am, Gautam was sitting in the balcony of the hostel with his companions. He also alleged that Gautam also asked to take off the clothes and when he refused, his senior started abusing him. The junior student further alleges that again at late night (around 1.30am), the accused student and his companions thrashed the complainant and tore his clothes. They also took away Rs 15,500 and his watch. They even threatened to kill him if he did the matter to the authorities.
Prof Harsh Kumar issued a notice to Anand which mentioned that he was earlier too were suspended for ragging. “As this type of act is condemnable and comes under the category of serious offense, therefore Gautam has been from the hostel and university with immediate effect and till the time varsity authorities complete their inquiry in the case,” said Prof Harsh. He added that Gautam has been asked to appear at the office of the chief proctor on February 18 along with his parents.
At the same time, Sanskar Aryan, who was involved in the incident, has been suspended and asked to reply to the notice on February 19.
Interestingly, the complainant was ragged on October 21, 2019. In that case, ten students were suspended by the AU administration, including Gautam Anand was also suspended following the complaint. After this the hostels were closed due to Covid. The hostel reopened a few days ago.
