Gaushala: Gaushala thrives inside an industrial cluster. Rajkot News – Times of India

Rajkot: There are about 3,000 factories in Shapar Industrial Area near Rajkot. About 90% of these factories are related to the engineering industry. One of these is a manufacturing unit with its own unique concept of employee care.
This unit has one gaushala in its backyard. The Gaushala was started about two years ago. So that pure milk, ghee, buttermilk and other dairy products can be served to the employees and other employees of the unit.
“We started Gaushala so that our employees get adulterated milk and dairy products. We started this when covid had not affected all of us. But it helped retain the employee during the pandemic. Due to this special care I have never faced shortage of manpower even though 90% of the workers in my unit are migrant labourers,” Kishor Tilara, one of the partners of the unit told TOI.
The shaper shares characteristics of any other industrial area—its air is filled with foul smells from chemicals and factory waste, and earaches from constant industrial noise. Nevertheless, the Gaushala, the brainchild of Kishor, persists here. Starting with six Gir cows, the number has now increased to 19. Tilara has given employment to a family to maintain the cowshed.
Milk and dairy products produced by the Gaushala are served daily to 225 employees of the unit. The canteen provides one meal, milk, dairy products to the employees every day. Employees are not charged for these services. Ghee is used to make food and tea also contains cow’s milk.
“Our aim is to serve pure food to all the employees as we treat them as our family members,” said Dilip Suvagya, HR manager of the factory.
“We get around 150 liters of milk daily from the gaushala. Most of this is used to feed our employees, while the remaining stock is used by the families of the three partners,” said Ramesh Tilara, another partner.
Tilaras is involved in manufacturing and exporting Hot Forged Rings, Bearing Races, Gear Blanks for the Automotive and Non-Automotive Segment.
