Ghaziabad: Garbage dumping continues on a large scale Hindon River. Recently the Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation (GMC) had issued notice to Khoda Nagar Palika Parishad for dumping garbage near the river bank, while an earthmover was seized from the spot.
Due to the ban on waste disposal in Rajnagar Extension and Galand, municipal bodies are facing problems in generating garbage. Garbage disposal was seen near the forest and Nandi Park areas of the city on Thursday. Not only this, heaps of garbage were also found on the side of service road in Sanjay Nagar and near Haj House on the banks of Hindon river.
Vikrant Sharma, a lawyer and an activist who recently filed a petition with the National Green Tribunal (NGT) on the dumping of solid residue Near Raj Nagar Extension, said, “The way the garbage is being dumped in the district, there will be only garbage under the soil everywhere. I am going to file a fresh application in this matter soon. There is no rule being followed by the GMC while disposing of the waste.
When contacted, GMC health officer Mithilesh Kumar said, “There is a site near the city forest where waste is collected by door-to-door service and then sent to the processing units of the department at various places. The department is trying to resolve this sensitive issue without hurting the sentiments of the public.
Few days back GMC had issued notice to Khoda Municipal Council for dumping garbage on the banks of Hindon river. The corporation had recently seized an earthmover from the spot. Officials said that a fine of Rs 5 lakh will be imposed on the culprit who causes damage to the environment.
Kumar said that the corporation was getting complaints in this regard from the residents. “On October 15, an inspection was conducted, and an earthmover was found near the river that dumped the garbage. On the same basis, a notice has been issued and a report has been sought from the council on throwing garbage on the banks of Hindon river.
Meanwhile, residents of several villages, including Galand, reached the GMC office to protest against the proposed waste-to-power plant. They wanted to meet the mayor, but since she was not in office, villagers Came back with memorandum.
