Frontline workers, senior citizens to get booster dose Coimbatore News – Times of India

Coimbatore: The health department is all set to go ahead with the plan to give booster (third) dose of the vaccine. front line workers and senior citizens from January 10
A senior health department official said that there should be no cross vaccination and the third dose should be the same as the previous two doses of the vaccine.
Those who have completed 39 weeks after taking the second dose are eligible for a booster dose. Health officials anticipate a huge demand for the third dose among senior citizens with comorbidities in the wake of the rise in cases of omicrons.
The official said it would be challenging to find the vaccines taken by people who do not have vaccination certificates.
S Rajan, 60, said he had visited the Periyanaikanapalayam government hospital for a vaccination certificate, but in vain. He was vaccinated during a private vaccination camp at Periyanaikenpalayam market. Since there is no proof of vaccination, it is difficult for him to generate a certificate and identify the vaccine he has taken.
“We have given slip to those who were vaccinated in government hospitals. People can show this as proof of vaccination and get a booster dose,” the official said.
Many health workers are now engaged in vaccinating people aged 15-18 years. On Monday, more than 11 thousand students were vaccinated. Another 17,028 students were vaccinated in the district on Tuesday.
“With the target of 1.61 lakh students, we want to finish vaccination before January 10 to avoid additional burden on healthcare workers, who will be busy with giving booster doses and tackling the challenges associated with it,” the official said.
