From Kerala to Haryana: School opening, closing status across India

Amid the decline in Covid-19 cases, most states have already reopened schools. However, some are once again shutting down due to the summer vacation, while states like West Bengal have called for the start of summer vacation due to the scorching heat across the state. From Kerala to Haryana, check the latest state-wise status of school reopenings, closures across the country:

Kerala: The state will reopen schools from June 1. In-person classes had earlier resumed, but were closed again due to the summer break. education Minister Vasudevan Shivankutty has said that masks are mandatory in schools. He has also issued a set of guidelines to be followed by the students, teachers and staff amid the situation of COVID-19 pandemic. Schools have been instructed to keep classrooms clean before reopening.

Punjab: The Punjab government had declared summer vacation in all schools from May 14 due to the scorching heat in the state. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann had said that in view of the sudden scorching heat and suggestions from thousands of parents and teachers, it has been decided to declare summer vacation in all schools of Punjab from May 14. The reopening date is yet to be announced.

Karnataka: The Karnataka government had reopened schools on May 16 after 35 days of summer vacation. The Department of Public Instruction (DPI) has directed all government and aided schools to start the mid-day meal scheme after the school opens. It had formed teams in each taluk to make surprise visits to schools to check the arrangements.

Uttar Pradesh: The summer vacations have started in the state schools from May 21 and will continue till June 30 this year. Students in the state will get a summer vacation of 51 days, after which schools will reopen from July 1.

Haryana: All schools in the state will remain closed from June 1 to June 30 for the summer vacation. Not only all government schools, but also private schools in Haryana have been instructed to follow this. Schools will resume individual classes from July 1.

West Bengal: Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee In the last week of April, all government schools in the state were asked to advance their leave from May 2 to June 15 due to unbearable heat conditions. Later, it asked all private schools to follow suit. Private schools were asked to stop offline classes and switch to online mode from May 7. Principal Secretary, School Education Department, Manish Jain had asked private schools to conduct online classes if they do not want to extend the vacation time beyond May 2 as prescribed in the department’s notice in April.
