Celebrities from the film industry have reacted strongly after a disturbing video showing two women from Manipur being stripped naked and assaulted surfaced on the internet. many Bollywood celebrities including Akshay KumarKiara Advani, Renuka Shahane, Richa Chadha, Sonu Sood and others have condemned the violence in the state.

Akshay wrote on Twitter, “Shocked, disheartened to see the video of violence against women in Manipur. I hope the culprits are punished so harshly that no one would think of doing such a horrific act again.”

Kiara Advani said, “The video of violence against women in Manipur is horrifying and has shaken me to the core. I pray that the women get justice at the earliest. Those responsible must face the harshest punishment they deserve.”

Richa Chadha tweeted another post about the video and wrote, “Shameful! Appalling! Lawless!”

Riteish Deshmukh tweeted, “Deeply disturbed by the scenes of atrocities against women in Manipur. I am boiling with anger. No man should be punished for such a crime. An attack on a woman’s dignity is an attack on humanity.”

A video allegedly shows two women being sexually assaulted on the road in Manipur. In the first official reaction to the purported video, Superintendent of Police (SP) K Meghchandra Singh issued a press note. “In connection with the video of 2 women being paraded naked by unknown armed miscreants on 4th May 2023, a case of kidnapping, gangrape and murder was registered at Nongpok Sekmai Police Station (Thoubal District) against unknown armed miscreants. Investigation The investigation has started and the state police is making all efforts to arrest the culprits at the earliest.

According to ANI, the press note details the search operations being carried out by the state police and central forces in various sensitive areas in both the valley and hill districts of the state. In one such operation, 2 weapons and 2 magazines were recovered by District Police, Imphal East.

The government has issued an order to Twitter and other social media platforms not to share the viral video of two Manipuri women being paraded naked. It is mandatory for the social media platform to comply with Indian laws as the matter is still under investigation.
