Friday prayers resumed in UP mosque from August 27

Shia cleric Maulana Kalbe Jawad has announced that Friday prayers will be offered at Asafi Imambara starting this week, from August 27. Last year, on March 19, 2020, Jawad announced the suspension of Friday prayers at the mosque following the pandemic. The prayers had resumed just before the second Covid wave returned and the last prayer was on 9 April.

Maulana Kalbe Jawad, who is the Imam-e-Juma of Namaz, said that since the curfew restrictions were lifted and the cases of Kovid were decreasing, the prayers were being resumed.

He said officials from Hussainabad and the Allied Trust, which oversees the management of the Asafi Imambara, have been asked to provide masks and sanitize the mosque. As of now, the government does not allow groups of more than 50 at one place at a time.

Jawad had earlier said that the 6-feet distance between prayers cannot be for prayers by the Jamaat (gathering) – an important aspect of Friday prayers.
