People have liked and enjoyed the film a lot. Wherever I go, people ask me to smile so that they can see if my teeth are fine. Such comments keep coming on Instagram (laughs). If I post a photo, there are comments like ‘Hey, the teeth are back’ and ‘Shouldn’t have done this to Hardy’. It’s actually quite cute. It’s a good feeling.”

Born to actor Pooja Bedi, the 25-year-old remembers her mother’s reaction to Freddy. “My mom is very excited to see me on screen anytime soon. When I came on screen for my first shot at Freddy, she immediately started sobbing. I think she will always love everything I do because at the end of the day she is my mother. She says it has helped her build confidence in her choices and Freddy is the perfect film to be a part of for a second film after Jawaani Jaaneman. “It’s been such a blessing. I’m someone who takes decisions purely based on my gut. I feel like if you go with your gut but it’s still the wrong choice, it’s not wrong.” Freddy never felt like a wrong choice and this one wasn’t either. Its success is a huge celebration. I feel very lucky,” she says. “When I look back, I’m very I feel grateful that Jawaani Jaaneman was my first film. I am also happy that Freddy is my second film. These two projects have been really special to me.

The filmmaker also made 2022 one to remember by attending the Marrakech International Film Festival for the world premiere of his upcoming film, Almost Pyaar with DJ Mohabbat, directed by Anurag Kashyap. Talking about it, Alaya says, “The experience was surreal. We went there thinking there would be around 10,000 people but it turned out there were 40,000! The response was great. It’s scary but exhilarating at the same time. Anurag sir is a wonderful guide and mentor. He held my hand and Karan’s (Mehta; co-star) hand.”

As she awaits the film’s theatrical release in India, she recalls how the film festival offered her an epiphany like never before. “It was kind of a moment where I was just doing something and then I realized, ‘Oh my god! This is my life now. I’m really living this moment and this experience.’ I felt very blessed to have had such an experience. Not many people get this opportunity. It’s such an amazing feeling. The film will release here on February 3 and I’m really looking forward to it.”

As the world rings up in 2023, the actor, who is shooting for Shree, a biopic on industrialist Srikant Bhola alongside actors Rajkummar Rao and Jyothika, says though she is not big on resolutions, she is looking to make the most of everything. Planning to take advantage. Live this year and every moment to the fullest. “Sometimes I make New Year’s resolutions if I feel strongly about something but I don’t like making resolutions just for the sake of it. I really need to feel it from within. This year, my The resolution is quite simple. I want to make the most of everything that comes my way. I don’t want to do anything half-heartedly. Whatever opportunities come my way, if I take them, I’ll take them. Want to take full advantage,” says Alaya, who will also be seen in producer Ekta Kapoor’s U Turn, a remake of the 2016 Kannada thriller of the same name.
