A Thane man lost his five lakh rupees after Anydesk installed it on his phone while he was trying to get his TV service fixed.
With the deep penetration of the Internet across India, online scams are becoming increasingly common. We have seen OTP scams, UPI frauds and now, according to a PTI report, a Thane man has become a victim of remote access fraud, and has allegedly lost Rs five lakh after installing Anydesk on his phone. For those unaware, AnyDesk’s primary use case is in providing customer support and remote guidance, which has become increasingly important in today’s remote work environment. However, in this instance, the fraudsters used the service to steal five lakhs from the person’s bank account.
According to an official of Chitalsar police station, the incident took place on January 14, when the man called his TV service provider after facing a problem. As per the victim’s complaint, the person had found that his service provider details were missing from his screen.
While he was on the phone with the TV service provider, he received another call from an unknown number. The caller asked him to download Anydesk app. Without any doubt, the person downloaded the app as instructed.
He was shocked when he learned that fraudulent transactions had taken place in his bank account, resulting in a loss of five lakh rupees. Confirmed by the police officer, the victim immediately informed a representative of Chitalsar police station about the incident.
Police have registered a case against unknown persons under Indian Penal Code section 420 (cheating) and provisions of information. technology Work.
