Frankie de Jong ready to take on most of Manchester United’s transfer budget

It has been a terrible summer transfer window so far for new Manchester United manager Eric ten Haag. The Dutchman may have expressed his desire to sign various talented footballers, but he is yet to sign a single one for the club.

An article published by The Sun claimed that The Red Devils believe they are signing a £67million deal with Barcelona for Dutch midfielder Frankie de Jong. However, Manchester United CEO Richard Arnold recently informed fans about a financial setback. He also pointed out that the renovation of the Old Trafford stadium and the club’s training base requires investment from outside the club.

“I’m not thrilled with where we are, it’s not easy and we have to sort it out. You can’t go to our training ground and say ‘Show me that billion pounds is here. I don’t think we’ve done well with the money we spent historically. We have blown away huge amounts of money,” he said according to The Sun.

“For the future, to invest in a new stadium and stuff like that, for a £250 million training ground, we have to do something, we have to get investors into it. I need to do what I want. Want to club – I have more cash than I do now, ”he said.

Manchester United were also keen to sign Ajax winger Antony for around £40 million, but the Eredivisie champions turned down the offer. Reports said that Ajax was looking for a sum of around £69 million for the 22-year-old Brazilian.

Ten Haag also expressed interest in acquiring the services of centre-back Jurian Timber from Ajax. The Dutch club wanted £51million for the 20-year-old defender but the Red Devils were willing to pay half of it. Manchester United need new signings as replacements for Paul Pogba, Jesse Lingard, Juan Mata and Edinson Cavani, who left as free agents.

In the 2021–22 season, Manchester United managed to finish the English Premier League in sixth place and 11 points behind fifth-placed Arsenal. In the upcoming season, Man United will begin their Premier League campaign against Brighton on 7 August.
