The retired bureaucrat excelled in his work and played a vital role in the development of the country, Stalin said and recalled the biography of renowned Carnatic singer MS Subbulakshmi.

Keshav Desiraju, former Union Health Secretary and grandson of former President S Radhakrishnan, passed away here on Sunday. He was around 66 years old and died in a private hospital. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin expressed grief over Desiraju’s death due to a heart attack.

In his message, the chief minister expressed his condolences to the bereaved family and friends and said that Desiraju passed away on the same day as his grandfather Radhakrishnan’s birth anniversary.

The retired bureaucrat excelled in his work and played an important role in the development of the country, Stalin said and recalled his biography of the famous Carnatic singer MS Subbulakshmi (of a genius voice).

Stalin said Desiraju was a great humanitarian who showed special concern for handicapped children and mentally challenged people and was deeply interested in their welfare.

Congress leader Jairam Ramesh was also among those condoling the death of Desiraju. He tweeted: “My dear, dear friend, for 57 years, Keshav Desiraju, one of the most outstanding civil servants, has just passed away. What a sad irony that the day the nation marks his grandfather’s birthday , That day he left us. Keshav has written the definitive biography of MS Subbalakshmi.” .
