The situation has worsened in Assam due to the floods. So far 2,02,385 people have been affected by the floods in 24 districts including Cachar, Charaideo, Darang, Dhemaji, Dibrugarh and Dima Hasao. At the same time, 7 people have died due to floods and landslides. On the other hand, the Meteorological Department has issued an alert of heavy rain in 4 districts of Kerala.

According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), the hilly district of Dima Hasao has been cut off from the rest of the state after the landslides triggered by rain. Communication is completely closed. All roads and railway lines leading to Haflong have been closed since May 15.

Loss of lakhs due to rain
Roads, bridges have been damaged in several districts and several rivers are flowing above the danger mark due to incessant rains. Two deaths were reported in Cachar district due to floods, while in Dima Hasao, three deaths were caused by landslides.

652 villages affected by floods so far
A total of 652 villages in 46 revenue divisions of 20 districts have been affected by the floods so far. To provide relief to the people, around 55 relief camps have been opened in seven districts, in which 32,959 people have been given shelter. NDRF, Army, SDRF personnel are engaged in rescue and relief operations in the flood affected areas.

Heavy rain in Kerala, Orange alert issued in 4 districts
The Meteorological Department has warned of heavy rain in Kerala and has issued an orange alert in four districts including Malappuram, Kozhikode, Kannur and Kasaragod districts. At the same time, a yellow alert has been issued in all other districts. Fishermen have been asked not to venture into the sea. Apart from this, flood alert has also been issued in many areas.

Rivers in spate due to heavy rain
Heavy rains disrupted life in Kottayam, flooded rivers, damaged power lines and destroyed crop yields. Meanwhile, Kerala Health Minister Veena George held a meeting with the Health Department to prepare for the monsoon. The Chief Secretary has directed the District Collectors to take precautionary measures in all the districts.
