Rajkot: Five policemen, including a woman police sub-inspector, were injured in a clash over an evacuation. Tazia procession in Salaya city of god Dwarka On Thursday night, the district police started investigation by registering a complaint of rioting and illegal gathering against a mob of 200 people.
The incident took place on Thursday night around 8.30 am when the police asked the local residents not to take out Tazia procession and follow the COVID-19 guidelines. “The mob protested and insisted on taking out the procession. There was a heated argument between the local people and the police after which some people started pelting stones at the police,” said Salaya police.
Five policemen and three including a female police sub-inspector of Salaya Marine Police Station Gram Rakshak From (GRDThe jawans were injured in stone pelting. “The mob created a ruckus and attacked police vehicles. Additional forces were called and the situation was brought under control after two hours,” the police said, adding that the police lathi-charged the crowd and fired three tear gas shells.
Heavy police deployment has been made in the coastal city to prevent further violence. The local police has started a search operation to nab the rioters.
Among the injured police women PSI PB Zala, constable Hirendrasinh Jadeja, GRD jawan – Dileep, Kesari Singh And Kuldeep Singh.
