Fire in Delhi’s Uphaar Cinema Hall since 1997, 59 killed in fire

A fire broke out at Uphaar Cinema Hall near Delhi’s Green Park metro station on Sunday morning, following which five tenders were sent to the spot.

The fire broke out in the seats/furniture and in the garbage dump in the cinema hall.

No casualties were reported in the fire that broke out on the balcony and floor of the theatre, officials said.

Atul Garg, director of Delhi Fire Services, said the fire was reported at 4:46 am and nine fire tenders were rushed to the spot. There was a fire in the seats, furniture and garbage in the cinema hall, he said, adding that the fire was brought under control around 7.20 pm.

This is the same theater where 59 people were killed and over 100 were injured in a massive fire incident on June 13, 1997.
