A fire broke out at the South African Parliament in Cape Town on Sunday, with media coverage showing flames from the building’s roof and plumes of smoke visible from a distance.
The fire was on the third floor of the building and preliminary reports indicate it started in the office space and spread to a gym, said Jean-Pierre Smith, a member of the Cape Town Mayoral Committee responsible for safety and security.
Smith said a fire broke out in the roof area and the National Assembly building was also on fire.
