The stage is set in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, as the 16 participating teams prepare to battle it out for the top honors at the FIH Men’s Hockey Junior World Cup 2021, starting Wednesday, November 24. The 16 teams are divided into four pools. The top two from each made it to the quarter-finals. The semi-finals and final are scheduled on December 3 and 5 respectively. The Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar, Odisha will host all the matches of the quadrangular event. Unfortunately, due to the COVID-19 situation and security restrictions, the tournament will be played behind closed doors.
Defending Champion and Host India Canada, France and Poland are placed in Pool B. The defending champions will begin their title defense against France at the Kalinga Stadium on Wednesday and the game will begin at 08:00 PM IST.
After winning the previous edition in Lucknow in 2016, India Colts will be looking to retain the coveted trophy as they take center stage at their home ground on Wednesday. Hockey India named an 18-member Indian junior team earlier this month, the team will be led by Vivek Sagar Prasad, who was part of the bronze medal winning Indian team at the Tokyo Olympics.
Meanwhile, the French team, which arrived here a few days ago, will also be desperate to give their best. Timothée Clement will lead the 20-man French junior team.
