FIFA lifts Pakistan football suspension

World football’s governing body FIFA on Thursday said it has lifted the suspension imposed on the Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) for “undue interference from third parties”.

Pakistan was suspended in April 2021 after a dispute over a ‘normalization committee’ put in place by FIFA to ensure compliance with its rules.

FIFA had refused to recognize the 2018 election of Ashfaq Hussain Shah as the president of the PFF.

He suspended Pakistan after Hussain Shah took the normalization committee out of the PFF headquarters.

The FIFA Council’s Bureau lifted that suspension on Wednesday.

“The decision was taken after FIFA has received confirmation that the PFF’s Normalization Committee has gained full control of the PFF’s premises and is in a position to manage its finances,” FIFA said in a statement.

It warned that “any undue interference in its affairs or actions may result in the re-suspension of Pakistan which may hinder the fulfillment of the mandate of the Normalization Committee.”

On Thursday there was a deadline for the committee to complete its ‘tasks, which include new elections’, but FIFA said that because it was “no longer realistic” its mandate was extended “until 30 June 2023 at the latest”. went.
