Farmers protest against Congress leaders Navjot Sidhu, Charanjit Singh Channi in Ropar. Ludhiana News – Times of India

Patiala: Ropar police have registered a case under various sections of the IPC against union leaders and more than 50 farmers, including the sarpanch of a village, for assaulting Congress workers and trying to stop the Congress leaders. Charanjit Singh Channi On Monday, many farmers protested against Navjot Singh Sidhu and Navjot Singh Sidhu in Chamkaur Sahib.
farmers protested Solkhian Toll Plaza Ropar further claimed that Congress leaders are double-faced as on one hand they claim to be pro-farmers while on the other they are implicating farmers in false cases to further the movement.
Notably, some farmers under various unions on Saturday protested against newly-elected PPCC chief Navjot Singh Sidhu over his statement with reference to farmers and that “Kuan mein pyasa aata hai and kuan pyasa ko nahi jaata”.
Farmers protested by waving black flags near Sidhu on Saturday Katalgarh Sahib Gurdwara In Chamkaur Sahib of Ropar district where he had reached to pay obeisance with Channi.
However, police in Chamkaur Sahib later registered a case against three leaders of Kirti Kisan Morcha Ropar, including its district president Jagmandeep Singh and block president Kulwant Singh Saini; Jagdeep Kaur, and Behrampur Jimidran Village Sarpanch Satnam Singh Sohi along with 45 unidentified persons under sections 283 (act causing danger, obstruction or hurt to public line), 341 (wrongful restraint), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 148 (rioting, armed with deadly weapon) and 149 of IPC on the complaint of a police Dharampal.
“The complainant police officer had claimed in the FIR that the protesting farmers first blocked traffic near Gurdwara Sahib in Chamkaur Sahib and later assaulted Congress workers and unauthorized access to cabinet minister Charanjit Singh Channi and PPCC chief Navjot Singh Sidhu. Tried to stop it. This clearly shows that the case has been registered under political pressure from Congress leaders especially Channi. Even, no farmer had committed any violence, but the ruling party leaders blamed the farmers for attacking the party workers through the complainant police officer”, said farmer Jagmandeep Singh, the leader named is in the FIR.
He said, “We protested for more than three hours on Monday against both Navjot Singh Sidhu and Charanjit Channi at Solkhian toll plaza and raised the protest after senior police officials assured us of quashing the FIR. I will show them the way. Whenever they come to the villages to ask for votes.”
The sarpanch named in the FIR, Satnam Singh Sohi, said, “I am the only one in Chamkaur Sahib whose name is mentioned in the FIR. We had waived only black flags against Sidhu, who made fun of farmers on his foundation day as PPCC chief. Show this, Congress leaders are double faces. They pretend to be pro-farmers but in reality they want our movement on the borders of Delhi to be derailed. They want the participation of the farmers from the borders of Delhi in their own political way. Move to the meeting as elections are near but farmers will teach a lesson to these leaders.”
Channi, the MLA from Chamkaur Sahib, tweeted on Monday that he had written to the police to quash the FIRs against the farmers as they do not want any action taken against them. In his tweet, he said that he (he and his party leaders and workers) faced a deadly attack while leaving the Gurdwara Sahib in Chamkaur Sahib, following which the police themselves had registered a case. He said that neither he nor his party workers have given any written complaint to the police and they also do not want any action against the attackers, hence the FIR should be quashed.
SSP Ropar, Akhil Choudhary said, “We have not received any written complaint from any Congress leader. There is no political pressure on us. The case was registered by the police as the protesters blocked the traffic.”
