Farmers come back, PM will respect: Haryana CM Manohar Lal Khattar Chandigarh News – Times of India

Hours after PM Narendra Modi’s announcement to repeal three central agriculture laws, Haryana CM Manohar Lal Khattar tells Manvir Saini that the standoff has ended and farmers Must go home He also claimed that the Haryana government’s inputs inspired the PM to take the decision.
After the Prime Minister’s announcement to repeal three agriculture laws and the decision to blame no one, will your alliance take back the cases filed over the year against farmers and farmer leaders in Haryana?
PM Narendra Modi has announced to withdraw all the three laws. Any decision on withdrawal of cases will be taken after detailed discussion as there are different categories of cases. Let us examine the cases and their categories and accordingly, a decision will be taken. The process of withdrawing the three laws has started. We hope that things get sorted out in the near future.
The farmers will continue their agitation at Delhi borders and toll plazas till the three laws are actually withdrawn and the MSP guarantee bill is passed. How will your government try to bring the farmers back home?
Like the PM, I also urge the farmers sitting on the borders of Delhi to end their protest immediately and return home as the common man is facing a lot of difficulties due to the agitation. Now a positive attitude should be adopted and farmers should trust Modiji. He is a man of his word. I am sure the Center will also take action on the issue of MSP.
Punjab has given Rs 5 lakh each to the families of about 700 farmers killed in the agitation and a job to one member of the family. Will your government now give equal compensation to the families of the deceased farmers of Haryana?
We will investigate each death and under what circumstances the deaths took place. We will take a decision only after thorough investigation and compilation of the report. Let the appropriate agencies compile the report first.
How did your government raise this issue with the PM, BJP President and Union Home Minister? How did your discussions affect the outcome? Even senior BJP leaders like Birender Singh claim that they have raised the issue with the Centre. Did you lose two by-elections because of the farmers’ movement?
Haryana was the center of the movement. We were discussing this issue with the PM, Union Home Minister and party president and they were advising us. We were also in touch with the farmers informally. This decision has been taken only because of our inputs. As far as this decision is concerned, it is not really election centric or politically motivated. We have 29 states and elections are held every year. So, I don’t think it should be linked to elections.
The laws had created a situation where farmers protested against BJP and JJP leaders and some villages even announced a ban on their entry. How do you fix these cracks? Your administration had several standoffs with the peasantry, especially in Karnal.
There has been a mixed reaction to the announcement made by the PM today. I would urge farmers not to worry. The opposition has also shown confidence. Haryana government has always taken steps in the interest of farmers, whether it is ensuring water till the end of canals, procurement of crops at minimum support price, implementing water conservation schemes, increasing compensation for damaged crops.
