Gautam Buddha Nagar (Noida) District Magistrate Suhas Yathiraj in Uttar Pradesh scripted a sensational story on Sunday after becoming the first Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer to win a medal at the Paralympics. Against world number one Lukas Mazur, Suhas lost in three well-fought games in the men’s singles SL4 category final in a match that lasted over an hour. Yetiraj stunned the Frenchman, a three-time world champion, in the first game and took a good lead in the second and third games, but Mazur is too experienced and very skillful to pull back a game to win 15-21, 21-17 Key , 21-15

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday congratulated Suhas Yathiraj, describing him as a wonderful amalgamation of service and sports, who has captured the imagination of the entire nation. PM Modi tweeted, “A wonderful amalgamation of service and sports! @dmgbnagar Suhas yetiraj has captured the imagination of our entire nation with his exceptional sporting performance. Congratulations to him on winning silver medal in badminton. Best wishes to them for their future endeavours.”

President of India Ram Nath Kovind also took to Twitter to congratulate Yathiraj.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also did the same.

The 38-year-old Noida district magistrate, who has a fractured ankle, practiced most nights after work to prepare for the Paralympics.
