As various social media contents of alleged attacks on migrant workers from Tamil Nadu turned out to be fake, Chief Minister MK Stalin alleged that “lies” were being spread about such attacks in the state to destroy opposition unity. A Facebook user shared a video of a train packed with passengers, claiming that migrants from Bihar are returning to their home state from Tamil Nadu in large numbers. PTI Fact Check found in its investigation that in the video posted on social media, the train travels between Bihar’s capital Patna and Jharkhand’s Barka Kana.

It does not travel from Tamil Nadu to Bihar as claimed in social media posts. This unrelated video was shared on social media with a misleading claim.

A Facebook user shared a video purportedly showing a train packed with people. The text of the video read, ‘Tamil Nadu to Bihar’, implying that they were migrant workers from Bihar leaving the southern state.

Earlier too, a social media post purportedly showing a clipping of a Hindi newspaper claimed that the information about the alleged killing of Hindi-speaking migrant laborers in Tamil Nadu was found to be fake after a PTI fact check desk investigation.

Stalin, in his “Ungalil Oruvan” question and answer series, claimed that no migrant worker has been allegedly attacked in the state.

The ruling DMK chief said that many such workers were working in Tamil Nadu for a long time and never faced any problem.

“Some are preparing fake videos and spreading lies. BJP office bearers in North India have done this with an agenda. You would understand the conspiracy behind doing this, if you notice that the very next day such lies were spread, I highlighted the need for political organizations to join hands at the national level to oppose the BJP.

At his birthday rally on March 1, which was attended by several leaders including Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, Stalin had stressed on opposition unity to defeat the BJP in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

The chief minister said that soon after he received information about the alleged attacks, he inquired whether migrant workers were targeted anywhere in the state and it emerged that it was not.

“I have informed the Chief Minister of Bihar Nitish Kumar That (the workers) haven’t been the slightest bit jealous,” he said, adding the official delegation from the state that visited Tamil Nadu over the issue has returned with ‘satisfaction’.
