Facebook Verified Users Can Now Host Live Audio Rooms Around The World, Get Dedicated Tabs

Considering the popularity of club house applications, Facebook Now has expanded the reach of its live audio rooms by allowing public figures around the world to use the service. Facebook has put a new and dedicated tab above the News Feed and even Stories for the feature. From the Watch tab, users will be able to listen to or connect with the creators they follow to host audio sessions.

In April, Facebook allowed public figures in the United States to use Live Audio Rooms to connect with their followers in response to the rise of the clubhouse. But as Clubhouse grew in popularity, Facebook took the next step earlier this week in expanding its audio feature.

“Starting today, all verified public figures and creators will have the ability to host a live audio room. We’ve seen it become a great tool for lightweight connections and conversions between different types of communities,” a Facebook official tweeted on October 11.

Sample photos released by Facebook show the playback format being similar to Clubhouse as it separates speakers and listeners into different horizontal sections. Like Facebook’s video stream feature, reaction icons will float across the screen as they are used. While the Audio Live Rooms feature is housed in the Watch tab, users can access it via feed posts as well.

The expansion will bring thousands of creators from around the world to Facebook’s audio social platform, but it will be limited to verified accounts only. This decision stems from the problem that the clubhouse is currently facing.

Since Clubhouse has opened up content creation to all of its users, it has become increasingly difficult for the platform to highlight the best content for individual users. The clubhouse is hosting around 7 lakh rooms daily, and clearing out the clutter is a big task.

This leads users to spend more time finding the best room to attend than actually listening. Twitter is also trying to improve discoverability and highlight content by adding topic tags to the space.
