Eyes not blinking: Justin Bieber says he suffers from facial paralysis

Popular singer Justin Bieber revealed to his followers on Instagram that he has a rare syndrome called Ramsay Hunt syndrome that causes facial paralysis. This left the right side of the Grammy winner’s face paralyzed.

Justin Bieber put out a video explaining the disorder on Friday, June 10, and captioned it “Important please watch. I love you guys and keep me in your prayers.”

According to the Mayo Clinic, Ramsay Hunt syndrome attacks the facial nerves and is caused by the same virus that causes chicken pox.

In the video, he shows his followers how he can barely move the right half of his face due to partial paralysis. “As you can see from my face, I have this syndrome called Ramsay Hunt syndrome, and it’s from this virus that attacks the facial nerves in my ear and causes paralysis,” he said.

In the video, he further shows how he is not blinking an eye. “I can’t smile on this side of my face. This nostril won’t move. So I have complete paralysis on this side of my face,” says Justin in the video.

He adds, “It is quite serious, as you can see. I wish it didn’t happen, but, apparently, my body is telling me I have to slow down. I hope you guys have understood. I will use this time to just relax and unwind and get back one hundred percent so that I can do what I was born to do.”

Uncertainty of the recovery timeline

The Canadian singer also says he is unsure how long it will take to recover. He also revealed that he was doing facial exercises to bring his face back to normal.

However, the singer has a positive outlook on what he is doing. At the end of the video he says, “It will be back to normal. We don’t know how long this is going to take. Everything will be all right. I trust in God and it’s all for a reason. I don’t know why now.”

I will use this time to just relax and unwind and get back one hundred percent, so that I can do what I was born to do,” Justin Bieber said.

Justin’s 3-minute video garnered over 14 million views in a matter of hours. There were also thousands of comments wishing and praying for him to get better.
