Eoin Morgan set to comment for Sky, broadcaster releases news minutes after retirement

Eoin Morgan, one of the best modern captains in the world, on Tuesday retired from international cricket. Within five minutes, Sky made an announcement that World The Cup winning captain will join his almighty commentary team, adding extra dimension to the already effective coverage of the English summer.

The Rohit Sharma-led Indian team will put on a heavy show in this season’s English summer where they will play three T20Is and as many ODIs apart from a lone Test match. He will be followed by Temba Bavuma-led South Africa team.

The Sky has an all-powerful commentary team with the likes of Ian Howard, Nasser Hussain and Michael Atherton already the face of their extensive coverage over the years. With Morgan involved, the coverage will only get better.

It was reported on Twitter that the former England captain has been brought on board.

“Within five minutes of retiring from international cricket, Sky has announced that Eoin Morgan has joined their commentary squad for England’s all-men’s white games this summer,” tweeted an English journalist.

Morgan led England to victory in the 2019 World Cup – their first major global 50-over title – and took them to the top of the ODI and Twenty20 rankings.
But the 35-year-old is battling with form and fitness issues this year.

Dublin-born Morgan was dismissed twice for zero during the recent ODI series in the Netherlands and pulled out of the third game with a groin problem.
Morgan had already revealed his plans, even as England took over the Netherlands. He played two games and scored ducks in both. He later withdrew from the last match as well.

“There’s a time and a place where it hits you – and that moment came to me in Amsterdam” said Eoin Morgan. He was ready for retirement and was happy that he was in ‘enough place’ to understand what it meant for England’s white-ball team.
