England vs India: After T20I win, India aim to seal fate of ODI series at Lord’s

India will lock horns with England in the second game of the three-match ODI series at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground in London on Thursday, July 13.

India led by Rohit Sharma got off to a great start by beating England by 10 wickets at the Kennington Oval in London on Tuesday, 12 July.

England registered their lowest ODI score against the Men in Blue after being bowled out for 110 in less than 26 overs. Barring Jos Buttler, who scored runs in the 30s, none of the English batsmen put up a fight.

Jasprit Bumrah produced the best figures against England in ODIs by Indian bowlers to break the backbone of the opposition. Mohammed Shami backed him as he took three wickets including a dangerous butler.

Later, Rohit Sharma’s unbeaten 76 helped India chase down the target with 188 balls to spare. The captain and Shikhar Dhawan shared an unbeaten 114-run partnership.

Can India beat England at Lord’s?

Ahead of the upcoming match, it is pertinent to note that India have not beaten England in ODIs at Lord’s since September 2004. In their last meeting in July 2018, the Three Lions beat India by 86 runs at home of cricket.

Joe Root played an unbeaten 116-ball 113, which included eight fours and a six, to help England reach 322 runs. Thereafter, the hosts bowled out India for 236.

India has had happy memories of Lord’s. Back in 2002, Sourav Ganguly’s India defeated the British team to win the NatWest Trophy.

As far as the current series is concerned, India have already taken a 1-0 lead and have every chance of winning at Lord’s.

Virat Kohli missed the last match due to a back injury and it is not yet known whether he will be fit for the second ODI.

India’s middle-order was not tested in the opening game and it remains to be seen how the batsmen react if the visitors lose early wickets.

England, on the other hand, are looking to get back on the winning track at Lord’s and take the series to the decider.
