England captain Joe Root helped his team get past India’s 364 runs in the first innings despite pacer Ishant Sharma’s two-ball two-ball setback in the final session on the third day of the second Test at Lord’s. . Sharma first dismissed Moeen Ali for 27 and then took the wicket of Sam Curran for a duck off the very next ball. Captain Joe Root continued to frustrate the Indian bowlers as he reached 150 and helped England take the lead. England were reduced to 366/8 after 122.5 overs, leaving India ahead by 2 runs. In the second session, Ishant got through the defense of Jos Buttler (23 off 42 balls) to get Root to score his 22nd century and second consecutive century in the series. Earlier, fast bowler Mohammad Siraj took England’s fourth and first wicket of the day by dismissing Jonny Bairstow (57 off 107 balls) after lunch. The home team went for lunch without losing a single wicket and added 97 runs in 28 overs. Root added 100 runs for the fourth wicket with Bairstow, who also completed his fifty in just 90 balls.
