England coach Graham Thorpe may be sacked for role in Ashes party video

England men’s cricket team assistant coach Graham Thorpe is facing dismissal following his role at the team’s Ashes party at the Hobart hotel, which saw police intervention following complaints from other guests. A video has emerged of police breaking up the party in which cricketers of both the Australian and England cricket teams are involved in a drinking session that lasted till 6 am.

According to reports, the players who attended the party include England’s Joe Root and James Anderson and the Australian trio of Nathan Lyon, Travis Head and Alex Carey. The video of the party was taken by Thorpe himself and he can be heard saying, “We have Nathan Lyon, Root, Carey and Anderson. I will make this video only for lawyers. See you all in the morning.”

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) issued a statement saying it apologized for any inconvenience caused and was launching an investigation into the incident.

“During Monday morning, members of the men’s teams from England and Australia shared a drink in the team areas of the hotel in Hobart,” the ECB said in a statement.

“Hotel management received a noise complaint from a hotel guest, and as is common in Australia, local police arrived at the scene. When asked to leave by hotel management and the Tasmanian police, the players and the management under consideration and returned to their respective hotel rooms.

“England’s party apologizes for any inconvenience caused. The ECB will investigate further. Until such time, we will make no further comment.”

England suffered a 0-4 loss to Australia during the five-Test Ashes series that ended last week.
