Coimbatore: Ward Level and Zonal Level Engineers of Coimbatore Corporation will work with now town planning section officer to stop Encroachment And to regularize the buildings constructed in violation of the rules.
The town planning section is responsible for approving building plans, regularizing them and removing encroachments. Sources said the section is short of staff to meet the prevailing workload in the city.
Corporation commissioner Raja Gopal Sunkara has issued the order. It has been circulated with Town Planning Officers and Engineering Officers.
“In addition to the present working nature, engineering officers working at zonal and ward level will also work with town planning officers,” a statement from the corporation said.
Corporation officials said that on the basis of orders issued by the civic body from time to time, engineers will take action against the buildings without permission and the buildings constructed in violation of the permission issued by the local body.
They will help in the protection of properties belonging to the civic body including roads, public places, reserving open space in approved layouts and remove encroachments, if any.
They will also help identify buildings that have lost stability and bring them down to ensure the safety of life and other properties.
A corporation official said that these engineers will also visit the buildings during the foundation phase to check whether it is being constructed as per the design approved by the corporation. It is a difficult task for the civic body to regularize buildings once they are constructed in violation of building rules, which also involves litigation. Besides, the property owner may also face trouble later, he said.
