Emergency declared by BJP government in Goa, voices suppressed: Digambar Kamat | Goa News – Times of India

Margo : Leader of the Opposition Digambar Kamat On Friday, there was a “complete collapse” of administration in Goa under the “dictatorial and insensitive” BJP government, and accused the government of imposing an “undeclared emergency” in Goa by “suppressing the voice of the people”.
He said that thus the BJP has now lost its moral right to talk on the Emergency.
To commemorate the anniversary of the National Emergency, BJP observed June 25 as Black Day.
“The government should free the people from the undeclared emergency which is causing hardship, pain and suffering to the citizens of Goa. The BJP government should stop provoking the emergency which the people of India have already ended. Madgaon MLA said.
The Leader of the Opposition said that former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi had publicly apologized for the Emergency of January 24, 1978 and “the nation forgave her and brought her back to power.
He further said that the “complete failure” of the BJP government resulted in a “health emergency” in Goa in which around 74 patients died due to lack of oxygen.
“There is a financial emergency in the state as the BJP government is pushing Goa into bankruptcy. There is no sign of revival of mining, and the tourism industry has been badly affected due to faulty policies of the government,” said the Margao MLA.
He further said that the BJP government has also imposed social emergency in the state, taking strict action to suppress the voice of the people.
“Three line projects – railway double tracking, highway expansion and power lines are imposed on people against the will of the people. There will be massive destruction of the environment, wildlife and the identity of Goa will be destroyed,” he said.
He said the National Security Act enacted by the government in South Goa was “to create fear in the minds of the people and restrict their participation in public hearings on the Coastal Zone Management Plan”.
