The CEO of Tesla has given several hints and the company has reportedly started its operations in India as well. But there is no fixed date when Tesla cars will arrive in India. Even though there is no timeline for Tesla’s launch in India, Musk has once again clarified why Tesla hasn’t come to India yet.
Every few months – or maybe more – someone or the other is questioning Musk about Tesla’s plans for India or requesting him to bring Tesla to India. a Twitter The user made a ‘request’ to Musk again yesterday saying, “Dear Elon Musk, please launch Tesla cars in India,” followed by a cute emoji.
On request, Musk said that the import duty in India is by far the highest in the world for any major country. “Furthermore, clean energy vehicles treated the same as diesel or petrol are not in line with India’s climate goals,” Musk tweeted.

Musk also said that Tesla “was hoping there would be at least one temporary tariff relief for electric vehicles. That would be greatly appreciated.” It is clear that he is putting the ball in the court of the Government of India.
It looks like the Tesla CEO has a ‘big’ plan for the Indian market – if and when Tesla arrives. Another Twitter user asked him if locally assembled vehicles could be the way to go in the Indian market. To this question, Musk replied, “If Tesla is able to succeed with imported vehicles, there is great potential for a factory in India.”
This may be music to the ears of the Indian government but it still seems like a long road ahead for Tesla in the country.
