Election Commission’s all-party meet to discuss ‘Remote Voting Machine’ on January 19

New Delhi: The Election Commission has called presidents, presidents and general secretaries of all national parties for a meeting to be held on January 16. This meeting is related to the demonstration and discussion of the Remote Voting Machine. In particular, to encourage domestic migrants to exercise their franchise, the ECI on 29 December informed about a prototype multi-constituency Remote Electronic Voting Machine (RVM) that will enable migrant voters to vote remotely from remote polling stations. The overseas voter will not be required to travel to his home district to exercise his franchise. The commission has invited all recognized eight national and 57 regional political parties to demonstrate the working of the multiple-election prototype remote EVMs on January 16, 2023.

Members of the Technical Expert Committee of the Election Commission will also be present during the demonstration. The Commission has also sought written views of recognized political parties on various related issues including necessary changes in law, changes in administrative procedures and voting method/RVM/technology, if any, for domestic migrants by January 31, 2023. The release further said.
