The Election Commission is probing BJP President JP Nadda’s allegations of violation of the Model Code of Conduct by Congress. The Congress had accused the BJP president of violating the model code of conduct by JP Nadda during his recent visit to Jharkhand. It is noteworthy that by-elections are to be held in Jharkhand at the end of this month.

Congress alleges

The Congress is part of the JMM-led ruling coalition in Jharkhand. He had lodged a complaint with the Election Commission on June 7 last. In its complaint, the Congress had accused Nadda of violating the model code of conduct by campaigning for the BJP’s Mandar by-poll candidate.

It is worth mentioning that BJP President JP Nadda had addressed a tribal rally at Morabadi Maidan in the state capital Ranchi on June 5. This tribal rally was a non-election programme. Ranchi’s Deputy Commissioner-cum-Election Officer Chhavi Ranjan said that ADM (Law and Order) is investigating the matter. Any action will be taken only after analyzing their report.

BJP retaliated
Countering the charge of Congress, state BJP president Deepak Prakash had claimed that the model code of conduct is applicable only in the assembly constituency where the by-election is to be held. Significantly, the by-polls in the state will be held on June 23 and the counting of votes will take place after three days. Ranchi’s Deputy Commissioner-cum-Election Officer Chhavi Ranjan said that 14 candidates are in the fray for the Mandar by-election in Ranchi district. A total of 19 candidates had filed nomination papers for this. Four applications were rejected during scrutiny, while one person withdrew his candidature on Thursday, he said.

60 percent reduction in incidents related to Left Wing Extremism in Modi government
Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Ajay Mishra said in Ranchi on Thursday that there has been a 60 per cent reduction in Left Wing Extremism (LWE) incidents in the country after Narendra Modi became the Prime Minister. He said that the number of Left Wing Extremism affected districts has also come down under the Modi government. He was on a visit to Jharkhand to narrate the achievements made by the Modi government in the last eight years.
Union Minister of State for Home Ajay Mishra said that in 2014 more than 100 districts were affected by Left Wing Extremism. The number of such districts has come down to 35. He said that the central government has constructed more than 10 crore toilets under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.

Ajay Mishra said that under the Ujjwala scheme, more than nine crore families have been provided with free gas cylinders, while pucca houses have been built for more than three crore poor people. He claimed that every household would be given tap water connection by 2024. In addition, the central government has strengthened road, railway and electricity connectivity across the country.
