Elderly Couple Burnt Alive In Prayagraj

In a tragic sequence of events, an elderly couple met a horrifying fate as they were burned alive by the relatives of their daughter-in-law, who had tragically ended her life a few hours earlier in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. The woman, identified as Anshika Kesarwani, was found hanging at her in-laws’ residence on Monday night, having been married just last February.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police in Prayagraj, Deepak Bhuker, the woman’s death was reported as a suspected suicide on Monday. Upon hearing the news, her family swiftly arrived at the in-laws’ home, leading to a heated confrontation. Allegations surfaced from the deceased woman’s family, accusing her in-laws of dowry harassment and driving her to suicide. Amidst the escalating tension, members of her family set fire to the house.

Upon receiving the report, a police team arrived at the scene and managed to rescue five individuals, as stated by the DCP. Firefighters arrived to extinguish the flames, gaining control of the fire. At approximately 3 am during the rescue efforts, the police found the bodies of the elderly couple.

The deceased have been identified as Rajinder Kesarwani, the father-in-law, and Shobha Devi, the mother-in-law. Their bodies have been sent to SRM Hospital for post-mortem examination. An ongoing investigation is being conducted into the incident, and further details are awaited.
