Eid ul-Fitr 2023 LIVE Updates: Prez Murmu, CM Yogi Extend Wishes as India Celebrates; Know Namaz Timings

News agency PTI Mufti Mukarram Ahmed, Imam of Fatehpuri Masjid, has been quoted as saying that the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee of the Masjid contacted at many places and was told that the moon is visible everywhere. Therefore, Eid will be celebrated in the country today i.e. on 22 April.

Describing Eid as a festival of brotherhood and harmony, Ahmed, who subscribes to the Barelvi school of Sunni Islam, said: “On this occasion, we pray that the brotherhood and harmony that has existed in the country for 75 years continues to prosper.”

Shia cleric and Imam of Lucknow’s Aishbagh Eidgah Maulana Khalid Rasheed Firangi Mahali said that the moon was sighted at many places in Uttar Pradesh as well and Eid-ul-Fitr would be celebrated on Saturday.

Khanqah Mujibiya, located in Phulwarisharif, Bihar, had also announced the sighting of the Eid moon on Friday late evening. Khanqah Mujibiya is a spiritual center for Muslims and the largest Eidgah for members of the minority community in Bihar, Jharkhand and Odisha.

Extending Eid greetings, President Draupadi Murmu urged everyone to take a pledge to promote the feelings of brotherhood and harmony in the society. “Eid marks the end of the holy month of Ramzan. This festival spreads the feelings of love, compassion and affection. Eid gives us the message of togetherness and mutual harmony.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also greeted people on Eid-ul-Fitr, along with other festivals of Akshaya Tritiya and Parshuram Jayanti. An official statement here said that he appealed to the people to celebrate the festival by taking all precautions in view of the corona virus infection.

CM Yogi said that the festival of Eid-ul-Fitr gives a message of happiness and strengthens social unity as well as enhances the feeling of mutual brotherhood. He said that this festival gives the message of peace and harmony. The Chief Minister said that on the occasion of Eid everyone should take a pledge to strengthen social harmony.

Eid-ul-Fitr is celebrated on different days around the world and is determined by the sighting of the crescent moon, which is believed to mark the beginning of the month of Shawwal in the lunar Islamic calendar.
