“Most of the recovered gold was hidden in the undergarments of the passengers, making it extremely difficult to trace. This unique method has been busted by the DRI,” said an official.

The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) on Tuesday seized 8.230 kg of gold paste in the form of gold paste worth Rs 4.54 crore after arresting two passengers at the Mumbai International Airport, an official said.

He said that most of the gold was hidden in the undergarments of the passengers, which made it extremely difficult to trace.

DRI had specific information that gold was being smuggled in the form of paste India by a syndicate of passengers who are traveling from Dubai to Mumbai, he said.

Accordingly, suspicious passengers were identified and intercepted by a team of DRI officials at Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport.

In his search, 8.230 kg gold in the form of paste was recovered. The official said that the cost of gold has been estimated at Rs 4.54 crore.
